GMB Union Commitment to Sizewell C

GMB has long championed the case for new nuclear energy as part of a balanced, secure, and low-carbon energy future for the UK. With Hinkley Point C already delivering jobs, apprenticeships, and investment across the South West, we are equally committed to ensuring that Sizewell C in Suffolk becomes the next major success story for our members, their families, and the communities involved.

Our Key Commitments

Good Jobs & Apprenticeships
GMB will fight to ensure that Sizewell C creates thousands of well-paid, skilled, unionised jobs, alongside high-quality apprenticeships and training pathways that give young people a future in the nuclear industry.

Fair Terms & Conditions
We will continue to negotiate robust agreements that protect workers’ rights, pay, pensions, and working conditions. Lessons learned at Hinkley Point C will be carried forward so that GMB members at Sizewell C benefit from even stronger protections.

Local Benefits
GMB will campaign to make sure local workers, suppliers, and communities benefit directly from the project – not just through jobs, but through investment in infrastructure, services, and long-term economic growth.

Safety First
Safety is central to everything we do. GMB will ensure that safety standards on site meet the highest levels and that workers are supported by trained union safety representatives.

Green Energy Transition
Nuclear is a vital part of achieving net zero. GMB supports Sizewell C as part of a balanced energy mix that includes nuclear, renewables, and other low-carbon technologies to secure the UK’s energy independence.

Why This Matters

Sizewell C is expected to generate reliable low-carbon electricity for six million homes for at least 60 years, while supporting tens of thousands of jobs during construction and operation. GMB is committed to making sure our members are at the heart of this national infrastructure project, with a strong union voice every step of the way.
